Original 1965 State Survey Committee Marker
Members of the Hill County Historical Commission joined county officials at a specially called meeting of the commission on August 4, 2005 at which time Mr. Jim Foster, President of the Dallas County Pioneer Association, presented the long lost Lexington Village marker to Honorable Kenneth Davis, Hill County Judge. The marker had been missing for several years and the committee had just about given up all hope of ever replacing it since the state guidelines have undergone significant changes after the original 1965 application was made. The marker committee reported that state guidelines now require some type of original documentation and none of the 1853 files are in existence today. That discovery had dashed all hopes of having the marker replaced until Mr. Foster called the county judge's office and reported that the long, lost marker had been returned to the DCPA by an anonymous person. The marker was shipped to Mr. Foster's Oak Cliff office in a large container without a return address.
The original village was located near the historic Hickey Cemetery and south of present day State Highway 22. It was founded on Jack's Branch in 1851. |
